About Robert S. Peck
Over the course of a legal career that spans nearly five decades, Robert S. Peck has argued precedent-setting appeals in courts throughout the nation, including in the U.S. Supreme Court and more than two dozen state supreme courts. In addition, justices from two other state supreme courts called upon Peck to represent them in constitutional cases, a testament to the respect he receives from judges throughout the country. He is among the most sought-after appellate litigators within the plaintiffs’ bar and is credited with having developed groundbreaking constitutional challenges to laws impeding access to courts.
Peck began his career as a civil rights and civil liberties lawyer, fighting for the rights of people against powerful adversaries. He has also trained new generations of lawyers, teaching advanced constitutional law seminars as an adjunct professor at the law schools of George Washington University and American University. Peck serves as a member of the advisory committee of the Civil Justice Research Institute at UC Berkeley Law School. He is also a past chair of the Board of Advisors of the RAND Corporation’s Institute for Civil Justice, past president of the U.S. Supreme Court Fellows Alumni Association, past president of the Freedom to Read Foundation, and a former board member of the National Center for State Courts.
